Dr. Nicholas G. Echemendia, also known as Dr. E, is an internal medicine physician at Alabama Internal Medicine, PC. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, he is fluent in both English and Spanish.

As a third-generation physician, Dr. Echemendia was inspired from an early age by his father and grandfather, both of whom practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Atlanta. He attended Marist School, where he played varsity tennis and sang in the choir.

Dr. Echemendia continued his education at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, earning a double major in neuroscience and Spanish and graduating with honors. After college, he volunteered in Managua, Nicaragua, with Manna Project International. During his time there, he taught English, worked in a health clinic, and helped provide food and support to people in need.

After returning to the United States, Dr. Echemendia conducted research in a genetics laboratory at Vanderbilt before attending Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at MetroHealth Hospital in Cleveland.

Dr. Echemendia joined Alabama Internal Medicine in September 2016. He is board certified in internal medicine and is affiliated with the American College of Physicians. Through his work at Alabama Internal Medicine, he provides thoughtful, comprehensive care for adults in Trussville, Birmingham, and surrounding communities.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Echemendia enjoys hiking with his wife, spending time with his children, reading and playing with his family, and playing tennis.
